A rave from the former Artistic Director at ACT

Jeff Steitzer is a longtime Seattle actor and director, and the legendary former Artistic Director at ACT. He gave Thalia permission to pass along this recent Facebook post:

It has often been said of me—unjustly, I think—that I hate everything. EVERYTHING. But that’s not true. What IS true is that I have been frustrated, bored and disappointed by the theater to the point that I had pretty much decided I no longer had any interest in the theater.

Until today.

I have just returned from seeing the matinee of Thalia's Umbrella’s production of Time Stands Still. I was unprepared for the emotional impact this show would have on me. I was an emotional wreck. The terrific script by Donald Margulies, the excellent direction by Terry Edward Moore, the lovely design work by Walter Kilmer (sets and lights), Jae Hee Kim (costumes), Lucy Peckham (sound), Eric Newman (properties) as well as the other artists and technicians involved was as accomplished as anything I have seen in years.

And the performances were simply extraordinary. Mark Kuntz, Tessa “Cricket” James, Quinlan Corbett, and my dear friend Jen Taylor are all doing exemplary, memorable, intensely moving work. I cannot remember when I last saw a group of actors doing ensemble performing at this level. I could barely speak after the show.

This is the kind of memorable production that makes you remember why you love live theater. It certainly did me.

There was a good crowd this afternoon, but this show deserves to be sold out for every performance. I urge you to see it during its too brief run. You can get tickets at www.brownpapertickets.com. If you miss it, you’re a fool.
